Week 13 sees us about a third of the way through the project. Officially we're running 2 weeks late due to bad weather, but given that the builders have continued to make such excellent progress when they can work, then we can be optimistic that the roofers will soon be " de retour" to begin on the kitchen roof timbers. Lorry loads of wood and tiles have passed the gate this week on the way to their workshop a kilometre down the road, where they are busy working in preparation for " la pose".
As you can see the exterior walls are basically complete and the "doubles genoises"- two rows of tiles are in place ready for the roof. Inside, the interior walls are also in place with coloured blocks in place to keep the space for the transverse beams.
The utility room window is taking shape and the carpenter ( meunisier) has submitted the door and window designs in keeping with the existing ones.
Indoors, Gerrit has completed the 1st floor bathroom- those of you who visited us in S'pore may recognize the theme! A second coat of paint will just finish it off nicely and then we await the first visitors to test drive it without having a second shower coming through the entrance hall ceiling as was previously the case....
Messieurs Laigle - Bruno et Ludo have completed the mezzanine ceiling and are moving down to the lounge- busy stripping off the old wall paper as I type.
No real change on the weather front as March approaches : more rain forecast for the next week , but with daylight until nearly 7pm, spring continues to advance despite a slight drop in the temperature. Fingers crossed that it remains thus as the boiler continues to function normally in it's " cabane" in the building site.
As work progresses, there is less scrambling around & over scaffolding required and I've even had a break from shifting furniture, mainly due to the painters being very efficient & careful to move and cover everything.
However, the early spring means that the garden needs attention, particularly elimination of weeds which are heading for Triffid status, so no need to sign up for the aerobics classes just yet!
