Incredibly another very wet week and the scaffolding remains at the back of the house because there are still the finishing touches to be done to the roof.... often the case where the bulk of a job is quickly done, but the final phase can be SLOW!
However the drain pipes are now replaced,most of the debris has been swept up & I can open nearly all of the shutters again.
The builders made the most of the rare dry spells and have made good progress with the new kitchen walls. Hope to see them again tomorrow as the forecast is for sun...for at least the entire day.
Last week's site meeting saw almost a full turnout of all the" artisans" as time moves on and more people become involved. Parking was at a premium!
Gerrit is progressing well in the bathroom and I am managing to keep the cement & plaster debris at bay with the help of Luigi's ( neighbour half way up the hill who also provides parking for the car) dust sheets.
The painter rang last night & said they could start today on the lounge & mezzanine, so another set of workers & scaffolding come on site but at least they will indoors and unaffected by the weather. This also meant another round of furniture shunting and covering up. How often I have done this in the last year I do not know, but still no need to sign up for weight training or aerobics classes whilst it continues!
The occasional sunny spell allowed for completion of painting of the exterior lamps and pruning of the roses. It may be wet, but it's also very mild and the early flowers are blooming. Weeding will have to wait until the ground dries a bit because currently walking across the soil leaves your wellies with 4 inch mud platforms.
With less workers on site and more time to read I came across an old book written in the 1930s by a lady who moved to Provence and whose experience of builders 80 years ago tells some amazingly similar stories to what we are experiencing....
Perlot, the stove people made a final appearance to move the electrical box and it looks much better!
All in all, they did a good job, but works completed within one month would have been preferable to the total of three which it took due to them being disorganized and forgetful.
Amazing to think we are 3 months into the project now, the days are lengthening, the birds are very busy and although the forecasters are talking of drier weather next week, best to keep the wellies, jackets and mops at the door.
