Last day of May as work progresses swiftly on the old kitchen conversion….to master bedroom!
Plastering and partition walls completed, electrical and plumbing lines in- though some re-jigging has been necessary- and ready for the appliance installations, old soakways dug up and new evacuation pipe installed under the pool steps , across the grass ( including tank & pump) and the lake to connect to the septic tank at the end of the new garage.
The painters, Mr Laigle et Fils have returned to do the undercoat , Mr Rumpler has laid the concrete skim on the bedroom/ dressing floor areas in préparation for the parquet flooring and Serge, the tiler is busy dealing with the bathroom.
Next week indoors, should see the return of the plumber and electrician to fit in the shower , toilet , wash hand basin as well as M Rumpler who will fit the parquet flooring and deal with the re-alignment of the doors and the frame of the new sliding door which we opted for instead of keeping the conventional door from the lounge. Outdoors, Team Bermudez will finish off the external piping work which will hopefully include an option for a garden water pump using the overflow from the mill stream which currently evacuates via the famous " pompe immergée".
Thereafter it will be the turn of the painters to complete their work as well as Eric, who fitted the kitchen last year, to build a vanity unit and the walk in wardrobes.
Mid June is the therotical completion date, but given that various surprises have come up along the way, we will be quite happy to have all done by the end of June.
Nature notes that the Swifts have returned and are definitely nesting in the new tower roof as they had done for years until last year when they were clearly not too keen on the change. So once again we are treated to the regular screeching flybyes as they zoom around feeding at breathtaking speed and then incredibly disappear under the tiles to feed their young, who respond almost as loudly with frenetic cheeping.
The garden is seriously blooming: poppies, peonies, love in a mist to name but a few and the cardoons are nearly 3 meters high. Frogs and fish abound in the lake, birds are very busy day & night- especially owls- golden orioles calling now and black kites circulate over the neighbouring freshly baled field and even a grass snake has been seen in the shrubbery.
