Happy New Year! Time for a quick mid week update because whilst I've been away, work has progressed well and the roofing of the main body ( south wing) is almost complete. Good weather during the 2nd week of Jan allowed for the extra section of wall to be built up by M Bermudez and Gilles & Simon followed quickly behind to continue with flat tiles on the steeper sections and are now laying the curved ones ( tuiles canals) on the back section of the existing kitchen roof/office roof. Work around the chimney was delayed by the late show of the stove company... whom we read about in previous weeks!
As the re- roofing of the existing buildings draws to a close , other elements of the works have started : Removal of the garage roof tiles, roof timbers & doors, demolition of part of the garage and surrounding areas including a small planted area, re-siting of the boiler , replacement of the 1st floor bathroom.
Having gotten rid of the scaffolding around the tower before Xmas there is even more now to allow for access to the remaining roofs and it obviously makes getting around outside rather tricky The animals having been in the cattery/ kennel while I was gone found it rather strange upon return , but have quickly adapted and found new routes, especially Dylan who climbs on the scaffolding and machines to make his way around. I have probably walked more in the past 3 days than I did during 10 days in London, particularly now as I can only go in and out of one door right at the far end from the kitchen and having lost 2 toilets in the the past 2 days means that the nearest one is 2 flights up. A temporary situation thankfully, though it certainly means that the post Xmas weight loss programme is off to an excellent start.
Rain again today and mostly likely for the rest of the week, so " bon courage" aux travailleurs!
